Summit Credit Union Wins 2016 Madison InBusiness Commercial Design Award
Branch in Waukesha features modern space, sustainable lighting techniques
MADISON, Wis. – Summit Credit Union was recently named the recipient of the 2016 Commercial Design Award from Madison In Business magazine for their branch in Waukesha, Wis. The coveted award, which is decided on by a panel of judges, is given by the magazine annually.
“We’re thrilled to receive this award from In Business,” said Summit CEO/President Kim Sponem. “This was an exciting project for us throughout its development and we’re looking forward to offering more services to our members in Waukesha."
The building was designed in tandem with Madison-based architecture firm Strang Inc. and features floor-to-ceiling windows for natural lighting and “teller pods,” rather than traditional teller desks, to create a more inviting, informal atmosphere. What’s more, the branch boasts cube-shaped meeting booths complete with glass sliding doors and colorful furniture. For sustainability, vertical, sail-shaped sunshades line the exterior in order to reduce solar heat gain while supplying cooler daylighting for the interior.
“This credit union building stands as a stunning counterexample to the staid nature of most architecture you see today,” said a member of the award panel. Another said the new Summit location is so innovative that “it really rebranded banking and looks like a place you want to be.”
The branch opened in June of 2015 and is located about 26 miles west of Milwaukee at 1103 Spring City Lane in Waukesha. For more information on Summit Credit Union and their locations, click here.
