Thousands Celebrate Local Cooperatives with Summit Credit Union

Madison-based credit union showcases area co-ops off Capitol Square

MADISON, Wis.Summit Credit Union’s eighth annual Co-op Connection took place over the weekend on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., right next to the farmers’ market. Nearly 4,000 residents attended the free event, which celebrates cooperatives from across the state.

“We were thrilled so many people joined us at our Co-op Connection event this year,” said Summit Credit Union CEO & President Kim Sponem. “Co-ops offer a business model of local ownership and an investment in their communities. Making that kind of an impact is the beauty of cooperatives, and we’re proud to help our neighbors learn more about them at Co-op Connection.”

Co-op Connection began as a way to celebrate cooperatives, and how they benefit local communities and economies. The gathering provides an opportunity not only for participants to embrace the cooperatives in their community, but also for the cooperatives themselves to work together and develop lasting relationships.

This year’s attendees enjoyed family-fun activities, product samples from participating co-ops and prize drawings. For more information, visit: https://www.summitcreditunion.com/money-smarts/events/co-op-connection-2018.

The event was hosted by Summit Credit Union and sponsored in part by CUNA Mutual Group, UW Center for Cooperatives and Wisconsin Credit Union League, among others. Local cooperatives that participated included Organic Valley, Willy Street Co-op and REI-Madison.
