Angie and Cris' Journey:
keeping the costs down on entertainment
We decided to opt out of our paying for the pumpkin patches this year. The kids do have fun at them, who doesn’t? Typically, there is an admission fee of at least $10 each, and while there, we buy pumpkins, drinks and a snack. We did talk to Blake and Carly about not going to one. In the past we have gone to a farm with no admission and purchased pumpkins, taken pictures, etc., however, the one we normally visited is no longer there. We looked online and found another small farm that sells pumpkins and other fall items that doesn’t have an admission fee. They also had a small building with hay bales the kids climbed on, and there were two kitties laying on a hay bale the kids were able to pet. The small farm also had chickens and goats to feed. That is what the kids liked most was interacting with the pets. I guess we could just visit a petting zoo and buy pumpkins from a pumpkin stand next time. Very grateful to that farm house for what they have to offer.
This past weekend, Blake went to a friend’s house to hang out. While Blake was hanging with his buddy, we found a free event to take Carly to. It was the Sun Prairie Fire Department open house. They had pancakes for breakfast, bouncy houses, Firetruck rides, they showed how they use the jaws or the clippers on vehicles, med flight flew in, Carly met a police dog, and she was able to use the fire hose and spray water, and more. It’s great to have these community events and connections to be able to give the kids something to do rather than have them feel bored at home and not be able to go many places, as that could cost money.
We also were able to catch the Brewer and Badgers games on TV at home and at my sister’s house. We saved money by staying home, and not going to a bar and ordering food and drinks.
It’s been a quiet week, but that’s nice.
