Megan and Scott's Journey:

when in rome

In case you missed it, on 10-1-2018, the Milwaukee Brewers battled the Chicago Cubs in a tiebreaker game for post-season play… AND WON! As locals, sports lovers, and since we both have October birthdays, Scott surprised me and bought us a pair of tickets for the first postseason game at Miller Park! We somehow were able to take a half-day off work to make it to the 3PM game, so we tailgated prior to watching the Brewers beat the Colorado Rockies that night!

Now, our monthly budget does not account for playoff professional baseball tickets… so we calculated a way to flex our budget over the next two months to make the $500-ish dollar investment stay within our means! Essentially, we maxed out our gift/entertainment budget for the month of October and plan to take a portion of the dining out budgets for November and December to pay us back for what we spent.

As you know from reading our blogs/social media posts, Scott and I both have October birthdays, and we’ve been using promotions from local restaurants to cash in on birthday rewards this month! We’ve been incredibly lucky with the timing for baseball and birthdays as they crossover – we’re staying well within our budget for groceries and dining out with just half the month left because were capitalizing on these deals!

Looking back to a few weeks ago before buying the tickets… what could we have done differently? Maybe started a sports fanatics savings account for those Badgers, Brewers, and Packers playoffs?! Dug into a different savings account? … Bueller…? The chance for tickets came up quickly and Scott jumped to the opportunity! We planned our tailgate with food, drinks, music, and good friends so that we wouldn’t have to spend in the park. We’re not condoning spending on a whim and playing catch-up (that’s an old habit for us!) – but sometimes, things pop up. Life happens and you don’t have the crystal ball to see what’s next. So, with the tools we’ve been gaining through this program with financial responsibility and sticking to our budget, we’re talking more about our spending and making our money work for us. On that note, we look to next week to share our thoughts and stresses on medical spending/saving!

Peace, love, and #OurCrewOurOctober,

Megan + Scott
