Dustin and Scott's Journey:
an attitude of gratitude!
This year, Thanksgiving is going to look rather different for us, and it will probably be very different for you too. Regardless of where you gather this year or who you do or do not gather with, the spirit of the holiday will be the same, and we will give thanks. As we head into the home stretch of Project Money, we have started thinking about “life after the contest.” We have taken a look back at some of our goals and the reasons we applied to participate in Project Money and we are feeling really good about the changes we have made and the improved spending and saving habits we have developed during the contest. We both feel more confident talking about money with one another, we more evenly share the responsibility, and there are both short- and long-term goals to consider as we look ahead. We of course would love to win, but we also feel really good about everything we have already gained, and for that, we are grateful.
We also have much thanks to give for our coach, Nic. Everyone should have a Nic in their life when it comes to personal finance and banking. He has been so supportive, flexible with our schedules when we meet and has done a fantastic job of guiding us in the right direction. We thought maybe that’s how this might go, but really, he has laid out the tools, options and products available to us as members of Summit Credit Union to help us improve our savings and reduce our debt in a lot of different ways, all while letting us be in control of the final decisions. Thank you Nic!
We are also thankful for Summit Credit Union for continuing Project Money and not only for the ways it is has helped us, but also for their commitment to their members and the community. A lot of the tools and products that we use are available to all the members of Summit Credit Union; you just have to reach out to them and ask for help or directions. We are grateful that these products are available to help you too, and we would encourage you to reach out. We have talked about things like Summit’s Climbr®, the online calculators and the ability to schedule transfers – and we are thankful that there are people smarter than us who come up with these things that make our lives better.
Our Thanksgiving celebration this year is going to be very small and very simple, but the spirit of it will be the same as it has always been. We will sit down on Thursday with another couple and reflect on that for which we are truly thankful. We hope you too have at least a couple things to be thankful for, and that you are able to celebrate with some sense of tradition or that you may be starting new ones this year. Whatever it looks like, we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving.
