Becky and Steve's Journey:

Budget Update

This week was Steve’s turn to meal plan, grocery shop, and cook all the meals for the week. He did awesome! Actually, probably better than me. He used a rotisserie chicken and made chicken fried rice with part of it and a ginger chicken soup for later in the week. He also made tacos and used some of the meat and other ingredients to make Mexican omelets the next morning. He said it was a little challenging, as he had to make sure he shopped for the sale items, which he doesn’t typically do. This week is my turn again and I found a website called Taste of Home that featured family meals for $10 or less. I chose four meals to make for this week and will do the shopping Sunday night. I was going to order the food online and pick it up, but I actually enjoy going to the grocery store, plus, it burns more calories! Going to the store with a list and a budget helps me avoid throwing items into the cart that I don’t need. Our goal this month and next is to come in under budget so we have more money to put into vacation savings. I have found that sticking to a weekly budget for groceries has helped a ton! I feel like we have way more than we need for the rest of the month versus being three weeks in and already having spent the entire monthly grocery budget.
