Megan and Scott's Journey:
clearance clearance clearance
In this week’s blog, we will be focusing on clearance items and how they can change your life! We recently made progress on another project at home – remodeling our second bathroom!
Scott recently finished the new tile floor in our second bathroom. And guess what...we got it on the clearance rack! We were fortunate enough to be able to take the time and make sure we got a good deal on the right tile for the job. As they say, “patience is a virtue.” Most people are in such a rush to get projects done around the house, but if you want to save a ton of money while doing these projects, you cannot rush! With our tile purchase, we were able to get the exact [REAL] tile for the room for under $5.00/box! We ended up catching a double deal with the tile first being on blowout clearance, and second we waited until the store had their 11% rebate. By being patient and doing our homework, we saved about $150 for what the normal cost would have been. Scott pulled up the old laminate floor on his own and noticed some water damage from the previous owners in the sub flooring. He was able to redo the subflooring and we bought our own cement board with the help of some friendly folks in the tile section! This project has taken longer than we’d like to admit, but we are SO happy to have our second bathroom on its way to full function!
Another savings opportunity we capitalized on was the new toilet! We decided we wanted to donate the old toilet because the 1980’s yellowish cream color wasn’t going to quite match up with our new fresh look. We once again did our homework and visited multiple stores to find the right one. When we finally did, we found that it was $50 off the original price! With the help of Project Money and being much better at saving, we were able to purchase this toilet right when we needed to, to get those savings.
We have one last part to change: water supply line. Once we get that replaced for approximately $5, we will have the toilet ready for action! We have a mirror ready to be mounted over the vanity... but our next focus is finding the right vanity for the powder room. Off to HOBO, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and Black Friday ads!
Peace, love, and no lines for the bathroom,
Scott + Megan
