Jaclyn and Kiara's Journey:

Finding Fabulous FREEBIES

Oh gosh has it been almost a month already guys? How time flies when you are saving money and running on fumes. As we come to the final week in our first month of Project Money, let’s sit back and reminisce.

We learned from our awesome coach Jamie that we were APPROVED to add Kiara to all of the loans that are currently in Jaclyn’s name. So why is this a win? Because now we can set up a joint account which will assist us in budgeting and essentially just keeping everything in one place. We will have an account where we can save money TOGETHER, pay bills TOGETHER and budget our money TOGETHER. Because one thing we have learned so far is that we are in this for the long haul and will be successful TOGETHER. Not only during this season of Project Money, but for years and years to come.

For those that have been keeping up with our journey (thanks for coming back) or those just tuning in (welcome, we are so happy that you are here), we are still kicking butt at saving money by not eating out. We have spent $0 of the $40 budget we have allowed ourselves to spend and started actually prepping our meals. This week we had the western baked omelet casserole for breakfast again (definitely recommend as it’s super delicious), baked chicken salad for lunch and chicken teriyaki stir fry for dinner. We have only used $129.63 of our current $200 grocery budget. This has been a lot less stressful than we thought it would be -- thank goodness. We are overjoyed that it has actually been a smooth and wonderful transition!

Has anyone else been feeling lucky lately? We definitely have. Now everyone loves free things and we will be the first in line no matter what it is. We have vowed to spend the summer (well the few days we have off) finding free or inexpensive things to do. And man oh man did we hit the jackpot this past week. We won tickets to so many things and it was 100% FREE. We got tickets to Summerfest and two other concerts. Some would say it’s pure luck but we say it’s all about being willing to listen and pay attention to the things happening in your city. It’s as simple as listening to the radio on your commute to work in the morning or following certain pages on Facebook. So, we get to enjoy these events this summer for nearly nothing and are able to save the money that we would have spent on that general admission ticket to Summerfest or one of the other attractions. We also plan on finding all of the Bucky statues that were unveiled this past May here in Madison. Go Badgers Go!

One more huge win for this week… shout-out to Kiara for getting Associate of the Month at her job and being gifted an extra $250 on her last paycheck for working so hard. So that’s an extra $250 that we weren’t expecting to have that we can now throw into our savings in order to continue building our financial future. WOOHOO! As we stated before, thank you for being here for the journey we are super excited to be a part of this journey but also understand that there is a long road ahead of us. Please continue to follow along and we will help you find ideas of free things to do with your summer! See you next week!
