Sarah's Journey:
goal progress update
Hello everyone! This past week has been a bit slow, so I thought I’d give an update on how I’m doing to meet my goals by giving a letter grade to different categories.
Not eating out/ordering take-out
Score: C
Food, and spending money on food, has been one of the hardest challenges for me to overcome. I’ve become much better about spending money on ordering out. However, this continues to be where I spend most of my money especially when a birthday or visiting friends is involved and it’s easy to fall into old patterns of ordering take out.
Spend less on fur children
Score: A
I’ve been able to significantly reduce the amount of money I’m spending on Doc and Bear’s food while still feeling okay about meeting their nutritional needs. They are currently happy and healthy.
Emergency savings
Score: B
I now have some emergency savings, unfortunately not the three months salary that is suggested as best practice, but it’s something. Every month I keep putting in a little bit more.
New Car Savings
Score: C+
Saving money for non-essentials is always tough. It’s where I pull money from when I break my budget and need to cover my overspending elsewhere. But a car, for me, really isn’t a non-essential and I need to put some serious energy into growing this savings account. A new car is necessary for me – and it’s needed much sooner than I anticipated.
Shopping
Score: B-
I am doing much better here. Honestly, if it wasn’t for a bad plant habit, I would raise this score to a B+ or A-. Plants are nice to have around, especially as we are entering cold weather days. A little green inside goes a long way.
