Sara's Journey:
Grease
Good morning and welcome to Week 7 of Project Money! It’s time to put on our dance shoes and listen to the sounds of some early Rock and Roll. “Summer lovin’ had me a blast. Summer lovin’ happened so fast.” These words may sound familiar as they come from the 1971 musical, Grease. Seven years later, in 1978, the film made its debut with Olivia Newton John, playing Sandy Olsson, as the Australian exchange student who falls in love with leather-clad Danny Zuko, played by John Travolta. Grease is a fast-paced musical with some catchy songs and even catchier dance numbers.
And while I won’t be talking about the T-Birds, The Frosty Palace, street racing, or drive in movie theatres in this week’s blog, this week’s Financial Fun Fact involves finding things in your community that are free or inexpensive in terms of activities and entertainment. In an earlier blog, I shared with you the importance of finding a balance in your journey and ultimately finding the joy in life. I encourage each of you to explore your city’s scheduled events and facilities. In my area, hiking at Riverside Park and exploring The Devil’s staircase is really cool. One might choose to take the kids to Palmer Park where they have a handicapped accessible Camden playground, the wading pool, and a zip line. Speaking of that, the Rock Aqua Jays water ski show is free to the public and an amazing event to witness. I believe they put on a show every Wednesday and Sunday in the summer and have a big National Championship in August. There are summer concerts in the park down at the courthouse Pavilion every Tuesday evening too and summer outdoor movie showings that are also free. There is a new outdoor exercise space just across from the YMCA downtown near the bus terminal which is also free. Other free things may include strolling through weekend farmers markets in the area, collecting rocks or sunbathing at Lions Beach, and various reading programs for both children and adults at the local public library. If you prefer service, there are many ways to get involved, such as volunteering at the local Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin or the GIFTS Men’s Homeless Shelter. Summer is a great time to bond with your family and friends and foster friendships, romance, and adventures of your choosing. Live a little or live a lot. Go Greased Lightnin’; I wonder where the nearest drive in theatre is; need to cross that off my bucket list. #TeamSara #10K #embracethejourney #ProjectMoney2018 #SummitCreditUnion #Lifeistooshortnottotakerisks
