Angie and Cris' Journey:
inspiration for the future with a little help
I recently read a book by Rachel Hollis, called Girl, Wash Your Face. It is a #1 New York Times Best Seller with over two million copies sold. It is very inspirational, and it basically told me I’m worth it, and I can do it. Do what? Anything. Since reading that book, I have followed this author on Facebook and Instagram. Rachel Hollis is a business owner, wife, mother, motivational speaker, among many other things. I found that it related to our Project Money in the fact that we can have the view that we can do anything we set our minds to, and we need to commit to ourselves for ourselves.
Since following Rachel Hollis on these social media sites, one post that caught my eye was a 45-minute podcast with Rachel Cruze: How to Gain Control of Your Money. Rachel Cruze is the daughter of Dave Ramsey. If you don’t know Dave Ramsey, he is an American businessman and best-selling author on budgeting and getting out of debt. Rachel Cruze is also a #1 New York Times Best-Selling author. She is a financial expert and speaks on gaining control of your money. She travels, writes, and does speaking engagements on personal budgeting, getting out of debt, insurance, and even taxes.
After graduating college, Rachel Cruze originally began speaking to high school and college students about money. She found that most students assumed student loans as a norm. As life went on, such as adulthood, marriage, and family, her business grew to talking to more than just students.
The number one message Rachel talks about is that budgeting is the key. Many people are not intentional with their money and have no idea where their money goes and don’t know the state of their finances. This is not purposeful. We need to make changes. All budgets are income minus expenses equals zero, and all dollars are in a specific category. If we do this for a few months and make changes along the way, we will get more comfortable and gain control.
Many people are afraid of change, in denial, and have fear of the unknown. It is a very intimidating part of life. We need to learn to ask for help, ask questions, so that we can learn these tools and still be ourselves and do what we still love to do. It is definitely hard, but we need to love ourselves enough and others around us to want to change. Sometimes we have to sacrifice our lifestyle to get out of debt.
One thing that stuck out to me during the podcast is that Rachel Cruze said, “Why do you need credit if you have money?” WOW. All I’ve known my whole life is to make sure I have good credit. This quote definitely brings up a lot of discussion.
Thanks for reading this blog, and we hope you find some useful information, as we have.
