In June 2015, the United States Office of Personnel Management announced that it had been the target of a data breach targeting the records of as many as 4 million people. To put it in perspective, there were about 320 billion people in the US around that time, so statistically speaking, there was a better chance that I wasn’t one of those 4 million people whose data was stolen. But, soon after the news broke, I was notified that in fact my personal information was indeed hacked. Crap!

I had a cheat day yesterday. Yep, that’s right, I threw caution to the wind and pulled out the Visa without hesitation. And it felt good. REAL good. More on my cheat day details in a bit. First, a lesson on the value of cheat days.

Numbers mean a lot to us, from the time we were kids all the way through adulthood. Grades, age, weight, time, distance, and even the score of the big game. When it comes to finances, numbers are everything. Obviously. While the numbers in my savings have gone up during Project Money and my debt numbers have gone down, one number that I hadn’t really focused on (until now) was my credit score.

It’s official. I changed my Facebook status to engaged. I was pretty sure that “engaged” wasn’t included as an option in my profile, but alas, there it was when I recently went to update my status with the photos my friend Julie took in the very moment when Scott asked me to marry him.

If you’ve been following my social media posts, you’ve seen my attempt at a Not Bummer Summer on the cheap. From a trip to Summerfest with tickets that I won to a stress-free staycation and volunteering for our favorite charity, we’ve had a nice summer racking up a total of 822 thrill points. And some really priceless moments as well.

It’s hard to blog about my Project Money journey this week given the devastation that so many have suffered from Hurricane Harvey. I have a safe, dry home and a dry bed to sleep in. I also not only have the clothes on my back, but I have a closet full of dry clothes and shoes, including pajamas to wear while I sleep in said dry bed. And so does Ashley.
