Let’s talk about Target
Moriah here! Come, sit, let’s talk about Target. It’s okay that you like to shop there. It may even be your happy place. It’s mine. I LOVE Target. I like to wander and look at all the clearance end caps. But, if you are like me, your planned $20 Target run quickly turns into $50, $60, maybe event $100.
Project Money isn’t about changing your life to win a contest. Although winning is of course the cherry on the sundae. It’s about making sustainable progress financially. So it’s me it’s about SMART Target shopping not NO Target shopping.
So what have I done to change my Target trips? My Top 3 changes have been:
I never go just to wander. I know, that seems strange wandering in Target. However, I’m pretty sure I see other people on a Tuesday afternoon doing the same thing as me. I like to “window shop”, get ideas for decorating or having a sleepover party with my nieces. Just to see what I can find on the end caps that is on clearance and I clearly NEED! But that always ends in $20-$50 that was unplanned. None of that for me.
I signed up for the Target debit card. I automatically get 5% off my total purchase and it comes directly out of my checking account. You also get free shipping online.
The Cartwheel App. This app offers discounts that you wouldn’t otherwise see in the store. Everything from food to baby essentials. Before I go shopping I look through the app and add items I’m shopping for. Also, you can use coupons with the app. What does that mean? Last week Kashi granola bars were 30% off with the app AND I had $1 off coupons per box which meant I got 4 boxes of granola bars for $0.94 a box!
So my love of Target will never change but my spending habits have!
Next week I will share my secrets to low cost diapers and other baby supplies without breaking the bank. Until then!
