Becky and Steve's Journey:
New Chapter
Tomorrow is our 24th wedding anniversary and we are writing this blog from Phoenix, Arizona where we will drop our son off at college. We are so excited for him and so proud of him, but the house will be a little quieter without him. It will be interesting how our budgets will adjust with only having one kid at home now.
Over the next month we plan to adjust if needed and be able to put more into savings to save up for our 25th anniversary trip next year. Because of this new chapter starting, we planned a family road trip to Arizona to be able to spend some time together as a family before dropping Joey at school. We set a budget, planned hotels and booked them in advance trying to get in wherever had free breakfast and even calculated gas. These were all the easy parts of planning, but the food costs while traveling are a little tricky and usually where we blow the budget.
I cannot say we were perfect on this trip, in fact, I think we have room for growth in this area of traveling, but we are still not coming home to credit card debt which is super exciting and stress relieving. We reached out to Facebook friends to learn some more tips and tricks of road tripping. One great one that we used was again to find hotels with free breakfast and grab some extra snacks for the day. We also usually get water and snacks at the grocery store not the gas stations. The second week we stayed at a friend’s vacation home and mostly ate in. Tomorrow will be a hard day, but I think we are ready and I know Joey is going to have a great time.
