Jeff and Sue's Journey:
Officially Paid off the Hospital Bills
Many people that know us know that Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2017. After six rounds of chemo and several surgeries, she is now cancer free, but not without some financial baggage. We were lucky that we had great insurance, but as many of you know it doesn’t cover everything. There are still copays, deductibles, and out of pocket expenses.
When coming into Project Money, we were still paying on hospital bills from Sue’s final chemotherapies and surgeries. Still having bills from this experience made us feel like we could not move on from the disruption that cancer caused our family…both emotionally and financially. We made an agreement with the hospital/doctors that we would pay $250 a month towards our outstanding medical bills. At the time we felt that as long as we were paying something (and interest wasn’t being charged), we were good, right?
After meeting with our coach, Aidan, she explained to us that it would make better sense to pay off those hospital bills with money that we had in our savings account at Summit Credit Union. We could then use that same $250 a month for ourselves where we could control where it went. So, the medical bills are officially paid off and we now have a choice of where we can spend our money! We are proud to have our bill paid off six months earlier than it would have taken on the original plan we were on. Again, you have heard it before…It’s your money – Own it!
Wow! Sometimes all it takes is to look at something from a different angle! Change the way you see things and the things you see will change. That is what Project Money is all about, changing the way you look at your finances!
