Angie and Cris' Journey:

retirement...what!?

We both have held jobs and been working full, or nearly full time for more than twenty years.  One would think we would at least have a start on retirement planning, right?

Angie has been adding money into a 401k through her employer for more than ten years.  That’s a good start.  Cris, on the other hand, has not had a work sponsored retirement plan, at any place of employment, until a year and a half ago, when he took a job as a union carpenter.  That’s not a good start.  In the time since taking his new job, Cris has started building his 401k and the union sponsored pension program.

How much money will we need to be able to retire?  How much should we be contributing to our retirement programs?  How aggressively should we have our 401k money invested?  What kind of returns could we expect in the next 15 years?  20 years?  These are the kinds of questions we have.  Thankfully, our coach, Melanie, has set us up with one of Summit’s retirement specialists.  We hope to find the answers to these questions.  I’m sure there will be more questions than answers at first.  I am also confident that Jody, one of the Summit Financial Advisors, from Summit will walk us through every step of the way.

We are looking for the advice that will put us on the right path to a comfortable retirement.  While we are only in our 40s now, I’m pretty sure that the next 20 years will come up quick.  We want to be prepared and confident in our choices.  No one wants to work forever…..right?

We hope that we can fulfill our hopes and dreams during our retirement.  What about you?

Angie and Cris
