Karl and Heather's Journey:

Seasons Change…Feeling the Same

Our first Fall Blog! So why are we still getting mosquito bites and sweating through our clothing? (Well, mostly just me). It just goes to show that life doesn’t always follow the rules; giving you the option to decide on a half-full or half-empty outlook. Fall is my absolute favorite season, so it would be very easy to slip into a woe-is-me mindset watching leaves turn while I’m still wearing flip flops and shorts. Instead we choose to look on the bright side of the season and take advantage of the opportunities it is presenting:

  • Warm clear nights to get out the telescope/binoculars to hone in on the cosmos
  • Movie night in our neighborhood triangle park watching The Force Awakens
  • In-house hair salon
  • Bodega Night at Breeze Stevens Field
  • More warm sunny days to keep our pumpkin patch thriving

The point is, seasons change but mindsets should not. All of the above activities are free and rewarding; something we have sought out since the first day of Project Money. There are things we are doing now that will reap rewards in the coming months: Saving up for ski club for Hadley, continuing to be budget-wise for Shannon & Phoebe’s ice skating and keeping Halloween/Thanksgiving expenses in-check. Even though the nature of our expenses is changing, we remain focused on living within our budget while still enjoying life.

So despite a late September of shoe-horning both summer & fall clothing into closets hardly big enough for one season’s worth, we continue onwards through the back-to-school chaos, me at my new job and Heather back to teaching fulltime. At this point, the only member of Team Duncan that remains un-fazed is Roxy dog...guess her bowl is always half-full!
