Karl and Heather's Journey:

In the Starting Gate

Here we are, loaded into the starting gate of our once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a short-term cash prize and a brighter financial future. Heather and I are already experiencing pre-race jitters of elation mixed with terror; and it’s only the first official week. Thankfully we are teamed with an amazing trainer Laura Zweep, who is already helping us become self-aware of what we are doing well, and more importantly, what we need to change!

Our triple-crown of goals include: (1) having a workable budget that’s jointly managed, (2) eliminating credit card debit and (3) not needing to supplement income with savings. We are quickly learning that our initial focus will be on breaking habits that do not align with these goals…and it is going take a lot of hard work by our whole family. In fact as I am writing this now, Heather is patiently corralling input from two of our daughters to build out a nutritious & budget-sensible shopping list for Woodman’s on her phone.

Please tune in every week to our Horse Cents blog and read about the good, bad and ugly of our financial transformation. We promise you the honest truth (with a little bit of fun) and we’re hopeful that we can learn from each other along the way!
