Angie and Cris' Journey:
The toughest week so far…
As I’m sure everyone knows, we had very difficult week here in Sun Prairie. The explosion that leveled a large area of our historic downtown, and the loss of one of our local heroes, has hit this community very hard. We were lucky enough to be just far enough away to not sustain any damage and not have to evacuate our home – being one block from the evacuation zone, but there are many others who are now homeless and have lost everything in the fires that followed the explosion.
Unfortunately, for us and our Project Money coach Melanie, we did not do a good job of saving this week. We didn’t go crazy, but we ate out a few times. We have also donated money to the victims of the disaster and we spent time dealing with the shock of what happened, as well as figuring out a way to try and help our home town. Our daughter Carly (6) and her cousin Levi (5) decided they wanted to have a lemonade stand to try to raise some money for the firefighters. We never expected what would happen at that little street side stand…
One Facebook post led people to the little stand, and boy did they show up! Some came in twos and threes, while others came in groups. Some pulled up in their cars; one was even on a skateboard. We even had three of our local firefighters come by and thank these two little ones for their hard work and for giving back to the community. This stand, in just over three hours, raised over $500 to give back to the victims! We are going to Fire Station #1 to hand deliver the money to our heroes – in person – and thank them for keeping so many safe.
We hope our focus on Project Money will resume this week. -Angie and Cris #SunPrairieStrong
