Family Financial Education
July 18, 2017
I have been working snice the age of 12 at my auntie’s child care business. I wasn’t even old enough to have my own bank account when I got my first paycheck. My mom didn’t want to handle any of my money ever. She said, “You worked for it. It’s your responsibility.” She stopped buying my clothes and any extra things that I would want, it was all on me. I loved the responsibility of having my own money and buying my own clothes, it really helped my confidence. I even started paying one of our monthly bills.

Two weeks ago I put some money in my savings account for my business savings account. That was easy! I took about 30 percent of an earned check and put it into my business savings and the rest in my business account. I believe putting money in my business account came so easily because I actually knew what I needed that money for, which is my business continual education fund. I have to update my personal training certification every two years, and learning how to grow my business requires continual personal and educational development training, which costs money.

Week 5 this week has been a destroyer mostly in my home and businesses. Last week I talked about how I have gotten off track. This week I have pulling out and looking at all of my recent spending. I keep all of my receipts so they are everywhere. Not only am I responsible for my personal budget and spending, I am also responsible for my business Venus’s inspires. In addition to my business and personal finances, I have the non-profit I developed, Madison Elite track club, to keep track of.
Weekend Mississippi Trip
June 27, 2017
Week #4 of Project Money, the weekend trip to Mississippi went surprisingly well. I was really afraid of the fast food eating. The first stop was to McDonalds, I did stick to our budget and told Madison we are not eating at McDonalds, here are your fresh fruits that we packed. She was fine with that but she did eat her cousin’s fries. After that we went to the grocery store and bought more food to bring along. Yes perfect! I knew that would be so much less expensive than eating out.
Planning Expenses on the Road

Week 3 of Project Money Challenge, and my daughter and I are traveling to Mississippi for my dad’s memorial service. Besides the obvious emotions of losing a parent, and getting chance to be around family, I am concerned about money spending. I am not worried about myself, I enjoy packing healthy snacks, (much cheaper) and not eating fast food, but having a daughter and her cousins who parents who buy fast food all the time causes me to be a bit worried.
Setting up my environment for success
June 14, 2017
This week I met with my coach and we talked about what are ways to cut back some of my spending and save money. To be honest I’m not a big spender. First, there’s not a lot to spend being a small business owner and secondly, I like to keep things simple. Therefore, I have to be honest and look at the income from my business, that’s a tough one. What is holding back my income, what systems do I have in place to keep leads and potential clients coming in a continual basis? To be honest I have not been productive in this area of my business which is the only way m
