Sara's Journey:
We’re in The Money
Hello Week 12 of Project Money! I am absolutely loving this journey and this week’s title reflects my enthusiasm. I’m hoping that after Project Money ends, someone snatches me up and allows me the opportunity to keep writing and keep sharing. Educating and sharing with others is what I am truly passionate about, and in addition to teaching, I hope I can make that dream a reality. So for whatever reason, hopefully this week’s blog title caught your attention.
There is something very powerful in the idea of visualizing one’s success and this catchy title sets my toes a tapping. “We’re in the Money” actually is a song title popularized by the musical 42nd Street. In the musical, there is an ailing Broadway director struggling with both health and finances. Before he retires and at the height of the Great Depression, he is to direct one final show. With an unfortunate mishap of the musical’s lead, Dorothy Brock, Pretty Lady is in trouble as the entire musical was being financed by Dorothy’s boyfriend. One of the chorus girls, the naive Peggy Sawyer, is able to capitalize on the mishap and have the opportunity to be a star.
An amazing element of Project Money is that one does not have to wait for the lead to break her ankle before getting involved and developing new habits. All of us can capitalize on the opportunity now. Summit Credit Union has a tool called Money Minder that is helping me each and every day to organize my finances and generally speaking, to simplify things. To put it simply, with Money Minder, one creates a budget, monitors expenses, and sets goals. That’s it.
I like that I am able to label my transactions (e.g. clothing, transportation, education, entertainment, groceries, etc.) though sometimes I do have to manually adjust some labels that seem to have a mind of their own. I like that Money Minder allows me to be a reflective consumer, alerting me if I am over budget, under budget, or pulling a Dorothy Brock and being all diva like. This is particularly helpful.
All in all, Money Minder is an accessible tool that is helping me to create sound mindsets and positive habits. Why wait when you can rise like Peggy did from showgirl to star overnight. These are the things dreams are made of. Contact a financial advisor from Summit Credit Union to get started today.
