Angie and Cris' Journey:
What are we?
It’s been three months so far being part of Project Money. Recently, Summit Credit Union posted the two-month results of each family contestant. How do we feel about that?
While we are are proud of where we are, it is definitely an eye opener to see how well all the other teams are doing too. We have had some moments during this contest where we feel we could have done better or not spent money on this or that. Sometimes we didn’t had a choice and we had to spend money on things like vehicle repairs. On the other hand, we wouldn’t be where we were if it weren’t for being part of Project Money. We are so thankful for the tools and teaching that are such huge parts of our success so far in this journey – Money Minder, budgeting advice, and our coach Melanie. We are winning as a family, in our own world. We have learned so much and are curious to see what more we can accomplish. A part of me feels pressured to do a little better, or try a little harder. I know I’m being hard on myself for what we’ve done, even though I know we are really doing great.
We have four months to go. September will be a different month, especially as opposed to August, which was a busy month. School is starting and Carly is going to second grade, and Blake in fifth grade. Carly is so excited and can’t wait; she is a typical seven-year-old girl. Blake, on the other hand, is a typical 10-year-old boy. Ask him about how excited he is to be going back to school, and you would get a little different answer from him than Carly. Blake is a smart boy, he’s just not always enthused with the idea of school. He loves the time with his friends every day, just not the homework. Carly just wants to get back to learning, she is such a sponge for knowledge.
This past month, we spent more than we budgeted for ourselves in many categories such as dining out, personal items, clothing, and groceries. I say we need to hold back a little in September and Cris says, increase the budget! What a funny guy! We may really have a budget that is not reality but we will see what happens in September before we start adjusting it, right? With all of the school fundraisers, Halloween, and even starting to think about Christmas shopping in the upcoming months, a fresh look at our budget may be necessary. We shall see!! Good luck, great job, and continued success to our fellow Project Money competitors!
