Emily and Ginger's Journey:

Where did all that money come from?!

This has been a great week for us. We started our certificate plus (savings) a few weeks ago for our travel fund. We've been able to save $800 so far! This is incredibly exciting for us because one of our family goals is to travel so that we can experience the vastness of the world around us and raise our girls with a global, justice-oriented perspective. To start, we have decided to plan a mamas-only vacation for spring 2020 to reward our hard work in Project Money. This is a great goal to work towards!

In addition to saving, we've made some great strides in reducing our debt. We had that pesky credit card debt that continued to creep up getting closer to the $6,000 mark. We were able to open up the home equity line of credit with a low interest rate and transfer our credit card debit earlier this month. We ended up only having to use $3,500 from the home equity line and successfully paid the remaining credit card balance. And this week, we were able to pay off another $1,000, so now our home equity line of credit only has a balance of $2,500. This feels FANTASTIC! We now believe we are going to be able to pay this balance off within the next three months! Good bye credit card debt!

Since we've started Project Money, we've really put in the time and effort to build a budget and stick to it. In doing so, we've literally come up with thousands of extra dollars. Seriously, we cannot believe it! Who would have thought we could pay down our credit card debt AND save money for travel with literally the same income as before?! This goes to show how much of a difference a budget and a little elbow grease can have. Summit's Climbr app through Summit Credit Union has been an amazing tool for us to manage our budget week to week, month to month. Check it out if you haven't yet!
