Meet Nick

Nick Hildal | Madison East High School
Year in school:

Sophomore at Madison East

When I grow up I want to be:

A psychiatrist

When I go to college, I would like to attend:

Northwestern University

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I work as a server’s assistant at a local restaurant and spend time with my brother and friends. I’m also a member of the soccer team and run hurdles in track and field.

What’s your favorite subject?

Math, video‐production, or any business class

When it comes to money, what would you like to learn?

I want to learn more about safe investing; high risk/high reward methods, and I want to understand the science behind marketing and why some methods are proven more effective than others.

If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?

I would invest towards my post-high school education and pay off my debts, my family's debts, and my brother's tuition. With whatever was left, I would keep investing it and donate a set amount per year to a medical charity, such as Doctors Without Borders.

What is the most exciting thing you have ever done?

With my dad being from Norway, and half my family there, I've grown up loving hiking and traveling. The most exciting memory I have is when I was five and we went on a three-day hike by crossing the border from northern Norway into Sweden. The nature, and being surrounded by mountains, is amazing. This summer, I also went to a Guns N’ Roses concert in Oslo, which I guess is also up there.

What have you done that really scared you?

Moving from Norway to the US in eighth grade was an incredibly scary experience. It’s been the biggest transition in my life, due to such a difference in environment and culture, which definitely took me a while to get used to. Now I’m glad I did, because it's been an incredible learning experience.

What excites you most about Project Teen Money?

I've always loved creating videos and editing, so being able to push my creativity to really attract people with my videos, while also being informative, is going to be really fun.

“At the end of this challenge, I hope that I improve my creativity and push myself to being able to think outside the box, while also teaching myself more about finances as I do my research for each of the videos.”
