What is a chip card?
Summit Visa credit and debit cards now include chip card technology. The tiny chip embedded into your credit or debit card provides an enhanced layer of security that helps protect you against fraud every time you make a purchase at a chip-activated terminal. Chip-card technology generates a unique one-time code, a feature that’s virtually impossible to replicate by counterfeit cards to help eliminate in store fraud. Merchants worldwide are transitioning to chip-card technology to offer stronger security and protection against fraudulent changes.
When will I get my new chip enabled card?
If you are an existing Summit Visa credit or debit card member, you will automatically receive your new chip card the month prior to the expiration of your current Summit Visa credit or debit card.
Why am I receiving a new card?
Your card now includes chip technology which provides you with an enhanced level of security.
What do I need to do when I receive my new Summit credit card?
We’ll send instructions with your new card(s), but here’s a quick checklist if you want to start planning now:
Activate your new Summit debit card by calling 833-285-1734.
Activate your new Summit credit card by calling 888-691-8661.
Destroy your old card. Once activated, your new one is ready for your wallet.
Use your card worldwide, everywhere Visa credit cards are accepted.
How does chip technology protect my information?
Every time you use your card at a chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip generates a one-time use code. This code is virtually impossible to counterfeit and helps reduce in-store fraud.
Am I still protected against unauthorized charges?
Yes. If your card is ever lost, stolen or fraudulently used, you’re protected by Visa’s Zero Liability Policy.*
*Visa’s Zero Liability Policy covers U.S.-issued cards and does not apply to certain commercial card transactions or any transactions not processed by Visa. You must notify Summit immediately of any unauthorized use. For specific restrictions, limitations and other details, call 800-236-5560.
What should I do with my existing Summit VISA Credit or Debit card?
Once you activate your new card, please destroy your existing card.
Where can I use my chip card?
You can use your card at millions of places that accept Visa credit and debit cards, at home and around the world.
Can I still swipe my card to pay?
Yes. If a merchant is not yet accepting chip cards, simply swipe your card. When using the card at a merchant who can accept chip cards, expect to be prompted to insert it.
Has my card information changed?
For your convenience, your card number has not changed. Your card may have a new expiration date, so be sure to update your information with billers that charge your card regularly.
Will I have to pay any fees to use my chip card?
No. There are no additional fees to use your new card.
Are my current Summit VISA credit card benefits changing?
Your new Summit Visa credit card does not change your credit card benefits. You can count on receiving the same great benefits (and rewards with a Summit rewards credit card) you always have plus the added security.
