As published by WMTV on April 19, 2024.The Dane County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday that it will be offering a financial literacy program in the Dane County Jail. The sheriff’s office is partnering with Summit Credit Union and the Black Men Coalition of Dane County to provide this opportunity to residents.Budgeting and emergency savings will be among subjects that the six-week program offers.Sheriff of Dane County Kalvin Barret says this program is another step forward in offering true criminal justice reform in Dane County.“By working with our community partners, we will continue to expand opportunities for programming to provide our jail residents with the tools they need to succeed in the community,” Barret said.Organizers say seven residents participated in the inaugural program. A check for $240 will be given to each once they receive their certificate. The funds are provided through a Black Men Coalition of Dane County grant.Copyright 2024 WMTV.
