Calculate Insurance Needs
Coming to the end of our first month of Summit Credit Union’s Project Money we’ve already started focusing on areas to cut spending. Our biggest and most obvious category where we were wasting money was eating out and coffee.Just by cutting out our routine morning trips to the coffee shop alone is saving us almost a car payment a month. We’ve restricted ourselves to one trip to the coffee shop on Mondays and have been relying on our Keurig to get us through the rest of the week. Eating out is the other area where we spend the most. With two little kids and hectic work life balance sometimes it’s easy to resort to take out or DoorDash. It’s crazy how one or two nights of “screw it let’s just DoorDash something” adds up. We’ve started meal prepping and planning menus for the week and also having quick alternatives for when we do not have time to cook.We have ultimately decided to focus on working on our debt, and with just these two adjustments alone we were able to pay off one of our credit cards…even if it was the card with the lowest balance. Now we have freed up extra cash next month to roll into our next balance we hope to get rid of.We are beginning to realize how chaotic our lives are and that adding a little structure and discipline can go a long way. We still have a lot to work and improve on but feel confidence slowly start to build.David and Becky
