Financial Wellness: The Taboo Topic Continues

July 17, 2024 Last week, I shared about the taboo nature of discussing finances and the correlation to mental health. I want to experience holistic wellness and maintain it. This has been a week where I've been away working, and my financial outlook did not surface as it would when I'm home. However, I hear others discuss purchasing things and making plans for vacation or otherwise. I reflected to consider if that's something I've ever done. As a single mom and doctoral student, I find myself focusing on the essentials with very little room to do more than that. I guess that's my definition of living within my means. However, I see how that could be redefined as I consider reducing debt and increasing savings. It also means I can still live simply without being overly focused on material things. This week, I'm thankful for gaining perspective that continues to activate behavior change. I'll continue to think about what it really means to live within my means. Our society encourages frivolous spending and overconsumption. What are behaviors that support simplicity and contentment? I Summit because I can grow holistically and acquire behaviors that support lasting change for generations to come.
