‘Tis the season for giving
Steph
As the Leader of the Milwaukee Chapter of the Barley’s Angels, I spend quite a bit of time contacting various breweries and taprooms about different event ideas throughout the city of Milwaukee. Some of the events could be as simple as scheduling a brewery tour, or they could take several months and lots of communication to plan. This November, I decided to tackle the task of a fall food drive. I picked Kinship Community Food Center to be the benefitting party and recipient of all items collected for the food drive. Kinship Community Food Center, formally the Riverwest Food Pantry, does more than focus on providing food to their guests. They take care of the entire person on top of fighting hunger. They have a nurse to take blood pressures if someone needs a quick check, and they also offer support for those struggling with joblessness. They do their best to fight poverty any way that they can.

I finally hit the big 4-0!
Steph
I had a great weekend celebrating my 40th birthday. To start off my birthday weekend, I ended up going to the Festival of Wood Barrel-Aged Beers (FOBAB). This is probably one of my favorite beer events to go to every year, but this one was extra special because it fell literally on my 40th birthday. This festival is in Chicago, so the responsible thing to do is to rent a hotel room. I was a little nervous about the expense, but I did end up splitting the cost with three other people, so I only ended up spending around $100 on the hotel. I also got lucky because one of my beer friends ended up hooking us up with some local Wisconsin brewers, and we ended up getting in for free! The entire Chicago FOBAB trip ended up costing me a little over $100 because of my amazing friends.

It’s time to start thinking about the holidays!
Steph
I know it’s crazy to think about the holidays already. It feels like yesterday was the Fourth of July, but realistically, Thanksgiving is less than a month away, and Christmas will be here before we know it. I have given lots of thought this year what to do with Christmas. I generally buy a few gifts for my niece and my little brothers. I will likely still do that but be a little more modest in the items I purchase. I also have bought a few trinkets along the way from some of the places I traveled to this year that I plan on making into ornaments for everyone.

Midway Check-In

I am feeling pretty good about the progress I’ve made since I started Project Money. I have worked hard with my coach to pay off several credit cards and now a personal loan while simultaneously saving money. It is super hard to do both things at the same time, but if you remain dedicated to yourself and your future goals, it can be done.

Pura Vida! Pure Life!
Steph
Costa Rica was amazing! It 100% lives up to its slogan, Pura Vida, which means “pure life.” Everyone we met, from our airport shuttle driver, Christian, to our tour guides on our excursions, was wonderful. I highly recommend going if you have the opportunity. The language barrier was only a minor inconvenience, as most people who live there speak English, at least enough to communicate your needs.

Getting Ready to Celebrate My 40th
Steph
I still can’t believe that I will be turning 40 in November. Forty years around the sun, as they say. I don’t feel like I look 40, and I don’t feel 40. Even though this is a milestone party for me, I am keeping Project Money in mind while I am making plans for my party. That being said, I am trying to make this party memorable but on a budget!
