Make a Payment Rates About Careers Contact Locations Along with a full-time job helping families impacted by community violence find housing and services, Hannah works part-time on evenings and weekends and is raising her four godchildren, ages 5-16. She hopes Project Money gives her knowledge to take a proactive approach to money vs. learning through difficult experiences. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. There are weeks when I feel extremely confident, and then there are weeks when I feel like my money is being spent left and right. The more the project continues, the more I grow a greater appreciation for accountability partners. They are people who are there to support you and have an extra set of eyes that may see things you don’t. My coach is a great accountability partner. She catches things that I sometimes don’t and is always able to educate me in things I may not know. I’m often a procrastinator and she catches anything I may lack in before I have the chance to do so. Nothing major is happening right now. Everything over here is running smoothly. Work is going well, kids are enjoying school, and our fall/winter activities are starting up, which are also going well. My work schedule aligns with the kids’ schedules this year, finally, and also gives me time to tend to my personal obligations. In the past years, they have had to go to the Boys & Girls Club after school until I was off from the job I had at that time. Last weekend, I took a last-minute getaway to Vegas and made a long weekend out of it. This was needed because lately I felt as if I wasn’t doing much for myself, but everything for everyone else. I was hesitant at first because I know I’m supposed to be saving, and I have been doing so well. I had to remember that if I am conscious of what I spend and have a limit, then I will be fine. It took a lot of self-talk into convincing myself to go, and I reminded myself that it’s important to still do things for myself besides work and pay bills. It’s official – student loan repayments have begun. A couple weeks ago, I talked about student loan payments and the options I was exploring. I got an email from the Department of Education with my official monthly payment starting October 1. I’m not stressing about it because it’s not a huge amount and I know I would have to make these payments either way. I was proactive and shifted some other bills around and lowered a few other payments, which now can go towards my student loans. My coach, Megan, gave me feedback from my post last week and reminded me change is the hardest part – that’s what most people are scared of, and I’ve overcame that. I used to feel like I had difficulty adapting to change and that it was always my biggest barrier. Now, in adulthood, people always notice and compliment my ability to adapt to change and be open to it as well. This has been motivating and a good reminder that I’m on the right track. I feel like I can overcome anything if I put my mind to it. This past week, I recorded my second interview for WKOW. This time around, I felt more comfortable and more confident in what I was saying and what I am doing with this project. The kids were also very engaged and interested in the interview. I think they are finally adjusted to my lifestyle changes of actively trying to save more and understand the importance of what I am doing (as much as kids can). The time has finally come for student loans to begin repayment. I never had to repay federal loans or really think about my options. COVID hit and quarantine happened in my last semester of college, so I was already going to have the six-month grace period after graduation to begin repayment and figure out the best option for that. I met with my coach, Megan, last Monday and felt reassured that she agrees my small accomplishments are in fact wins and that I should feel proud no matter how big or small they are. We have decided on new goals to work towards. One of my biggest goals has always been to meal prep and plan. I have now made that a goal with my coach. I have wanted to do it for a while now for healthy eating purposes, but now I want to incorporate it for budget purposes as well. It will also be extremely helpful with time management with our busy schedule.
