We just got back from an amazing weekend in Britt’s hometown, where she celebrated her best friend's bachelorette party. It was so much fun to reconnect with old friends, enjoy some quality time with family and honor the bride-to-be. And the best part is, we did it all without spending a fortune. Here are some of the ways we saved money on this trip, and how you can too if you're planning a similar getaway.Carpool with a relativeOne of the biggest expenses of traveling is transportation. Luckily, we were able to carpool with Britt’s grandma, who lives near us and was up for an adventure to Michigan for the weekend. We split the cost of gas, which was much cheaper than buying a plane ticket or renting a car. Plus, we got to spend some quality time with grandma, who is always a joy to talk to. We even reminisced and shared some stories about the past, which was hilarious.Pack your own foodAnother way to save money on the road is to pack your own food. We stopped at rest areas right off the highway to stretch, eat a cooler-packed lunch and avoid the temptation of buying those snacks at the gas stations. Not only did this save us money, but it also helped us stay healthy and avoid junk food. We also brought some beer and non-alcoholic drink choices from home, which we enjoyed at Britt’s mom's house with our friends. This prevented us from having to go out and spend money at local bars or restaurants, which tend to have higher costs than we are accustomed to in West Bend.Stay with family or friendsThe third way to save money on a trip is to stay with family or friends, if possible. We were lucky enough to stay at Britt’s mom's house, which was very comfortable and cozy. Her mom was also kind enough to cook us some delicious meals, which we shared with grandma and Britt’s uncle. We had a great time catching up and reminiscing about old times. Staying with family or friends not only saves you money on accommodation and food, but also gives you a chance to reconnect with your loved ones and make new memories.Set a budget for the party or other planned eventsThe last way to save money on a bachelorette weekend is to set a budget for the party and stick to it. Britt and other attendees had paid $50 ahead for the bachelorette party, which included the cover charge, a reserved area at a local bar and some drinks and snacks. She ate dinner ahead of the party and then stuck to three non-alcoholic beers and water, which were both included in the $50. She had a blast dancing and celebrating with her friends, without spending more than she had planned.Overall, it was a terrific visit. We had so much fun with our family and our friends and were able to do it without breaking the bank. We hope this blog inspires you to plan your own budget-friendly weekend away, or any other trip you have in mind. Remember, you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a good time. You just need some creativity, some planning and some good company. Don’t you have a friend or two who keeps bugging you to come visit? Here is your chance!
