How to Budget With Multiple Accounts

July 31, 2024 During my planning meetings with my Project Money coach, one suggestion after creating my budget and financial goals was to create different accounts based on my needs. I already have different accounts; however, they need more organization. Multiple accounts have helped me to keep track of my income and my expenses. At the same time, it is easier to monitor savings, spending, emergency funds or money for leisure. Each account should have its specific purpose, for example:1. The main account. My earnings are deposited here, and all bills are paid out of this account automatically. This account is balanced monthly to ensure it has enough money for each pay period to pay my bills based on my budget.2. The secondary account. Every pay period, the money that is not needed in the main account is transferred to this account to pay for variable expenses, like coffee, eating out, etc. After calculating the average amount of money I spend monthly, I decided to cut back on some of these expenses to be able to put some money in savings.3. Savings account. I set specific savings goals. Every extra income that I get goes into this account.4. Travel account. Since travel is very important to me, I set up an account to save money for my trips.5. Emergency funds. This account is a savings account that grows and is only used for emergencies, like fixing my car, health issues or broken appliances.
