Camping Season

July 26, 2023 It’s camping season, which is my favorite time of year. Thinking about it on frosty winter days helps get me though the winter. That being said, camping season has been a lot of work both physically and financially. I had to move my camper from my seasonal spot in Chilton last fall to my new spot in Oshkosh. Although I am super excited to be in my new summer home, I have had to rebuild my seasonal spot. I spent several weekends rebuilding my deck, shed, woodshed and garden bed. Rebuilding these items costs a pretty penny. I have been doing my best to think deeply about the skills I have learned so far doing Project Money while making purchases.  I have done a pretty good job only buying things I need to complete projects and spending little on the things I want. This weekend, I got super lucky and bought several perennial flowers for $1 a piece at Lowe’s!  My total before the discount was nearly $200! I’m super grateful that I ended up scoring this deal. Our spots were just built this fall, so there is a limited amount of privacy. I am hoping that next summer some of these perennials will be big enough to provide some of the privacy that I am looking for.I am also super grateful that Menards has many deals on outdoor items and that lumber prices are back down. That came in handy when I was rebuilding my deck. I had to cut it into several pieces to move it from one campground to the other, so I needed several 2x4s to put it back together. It looks great now, and I am looking forward to having coffee on my deck in the mornings when I am there.Rebuilding my camping spot this year has taught me several things. The main thing that I have learned is I do not need the fancy stuff right now. It can wait until I have made more progress on saving money and paying off debts.
