Finding My Inner Savvy Money Chick Again

June 19, 2023 I would have never thought that checking my emails one late Sunday night would lead me to starting something completely new in my life. I saw an email about Project Money and thought, why not apply?  The worst thing they can say is, “Thanks, but we found a better candidate.” I submitted my application thinking to myself, at least I tried. Fast forward several months, I got another email saying they’d like to schedule me for an interview! The day of the interview, I sat anxiously on my couch waiting to have a video interview with Summit. I remember reviewing a few notes I’d taken down from the night before. Summit appeared on the screen. This is it. Here we go! I felt like I rambled the entire time, but I was 100% my authentic self throughout the process. Here I sit today, writing my first blog for Project Money. I’m still in shock that I’m one of the finalists. I’m so ready for this next adventure in my life, and to say that I’m excited would be an understatement. I really feel that Project Money will help me get back on track to the financial freedom that I am looking for. I have always been savvy with my money. Most of my family and friends would tell you that. I was the kind of chick that would put cash in envelopes to pay for things like a facial or massage. You might think, why is a savvy money chick in need of some financial advice? To be completely honest, starting over again after divorce and then going through COVID really hurt me financially and mentally. I'm sure that some of you reading this blog can relate. I put a significant down payment down on a duplex I bought which ended up needing several expensive repairs, and several unforeseen events later, I’m in the situation I am in today. The bottom line is most of us today are one unforeseen event away from some serious financial hardship if we don’t become better at managing our money. I’m not just talking coupon clipping either. We really need to break things down and be honest with ourselves on how we spend our money if we want to be successful in managing it.Even though I’m super nervous to address my financial flaws, I'm also super excited to work with my coach Takarra and discuss different financial strategies like budgeting and using Summit Credit Union’s app called Climbr. With this app, I can see exactly how I’m spending my money. This will not only help me now, but it will also give me the tools I need for the rest of my life. I would like to get back to being the money-savvy chick that I once was. I hope that you all will join me on this wild ride I’m about to go on with starting something completely new. Who knows, maybe you can learn something along the way too!
