Practicing The Pause

August 16, 2023 This week, I started to feel overwhelmed with the process of Project Money. I think like most people, I get overwhelmed by the added pressure of things, including the pressure I put on myself to do well. I want to be successful at this. I really, really want this to work out. When I was first selected, I was like, it will be easy! I’ll write some blogs, make some social media posts. No biggie, I got this! To be honest, I guess there’s way more vulnerability involved than I had anticipated, too. I mean, I feel like I am airing out all my dirty laundry to the world. It’s the kind of stuff that most people keep a secret. I know that I’m not, but at times it does feel that way. This process is a lot. It’s a lot to do in addition to life, work, trying to date, my beer group and the recent addition of being a Board Member at the Co-op. I had to take a step back and practice the pause. They say when you’re feeling tired, overwhelmed and full of self-doubt, it's important to pause. That’s exactly what I did.  Thankfully, I had my meeting with my coach this week. Takarra and I talked about how I am doing well. It’s a marathon and not a race, and on paper things look great so far. To me it doesn’t feel that way, but we are our own worst critics when it comes to achieving success. I am grateful that part of the Project Money program is to meet up with your coach monthly. Those meetings are crucial to not only gaining knowledge on how to pay down debt and save money, but the monthly mental check in is just as important.  It was what I needed to feel like myself again. This week was a good reminder that every situation is temporary. Even those moments of feeling overwhelmed and full of self-doubt. There is so much that can be learned about yourself and your situation when you take a moment to stop and really think about things. I think we all can benefit from practicing the pause more often. I’m still incredibly grateful for this opportunity, and that won’t ever change no matter how challenging the process gets.    Steph Wagner
