Calculate Insurance Needs
There have been lots of emotions involved with being chosen for Project Money. One would be gratitude. I still can’t believe I was picked for this. They must really believe there’s something special about me to be picked over lots of other people. Maybe one day I’ll see it too! Lol. Another would be fear. I don’t want to screw things up here. I know that this is a huge opportunity that lots of people would love the chance at getting. Like I said, I’m so grateful, but I am incredibly nervous too. Being chosen for Project Money has really made me sit down and think about how I spend my money and really look closely at areas that I can improve. I was already budgeting. For example, I cut out things like cable long ago, and I also started by shopping at Aldi because it is so much more reasonably priced than other stores. I don’t generally spend money frivolously.Sure, I do have the occasional splurge on a tasty barrel-aged beer from one of my favorite breweries, or a spa treatment for myself, but I have seriously cut back on all that the past couple of months too. I have decided that now is the time to really dig deep and look at things that I can modify, so that I can reach my goals of paying down debt and saving more money. I’m using Project Money not to just change my spending habits. I’m determined to make this a way to revamp my mind, body and spirit. The approach I’ve taken with this is to keep an open mind and allow an open heart. That means doing my very best to work towards my goals but also giving myself some grace because I’m not perfect. This week, I caught myself feeling overwhelmed with my expectations I’ve set for myself. I literally had to give myself a pep talk. It kind of reminded me when I was in school and I’d call my Dad because I thought I failed an exam. He’d ask me, did you do your best? I’d frequently answer, of course! I studied really hard! He’d reply, then that’s all you can do. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. So get back up and start again.Man, that was like a million years ago we had those conversations, and I remember them like it was yesterday. He was right though. You always have to try your hardest, keeping your goals in mind but giving yourself some grace. I’m sure I’ll flounder at some point in this process. We’re only human. It happens, but as long as I get back up again, that’s all that matters. So, I’m determined to keep my goals of paying down debt and saving money in mind, but I’m also reminding myself that I’m not perfect, and that’s okay. At the end of the day, like my dad said, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. I’m going to do my best with this opportunity I’ve been given.
