A Week of Tough Reality!

August 14, 2024 This week was one of the hardest weeks of this financial journey. We had to face some hard truths from our coach, Tori, and finally make some difficult decisions to cut down on expenses and save some money for the future. She helped us map out the next few months and showed us if we didn’t make changes some weeks, we wouldn’t have enough money to meet our bills. We agreed to cancel our cable subscription and some of the streaming services. It was not easy to let go of the entertainment that we’ve enjoyed for so long, but we knew it was necessary. We are challenged to look into a few other areas next week, and we will share more updates then.Britt felt a lot of emotions during this week. Britt felt sad, angry, frustrated and anxious. She even questioned Tori on how we’d ever make an impact on our finances. We also felt guilty for spending so much money on things that we did not really need. We wished we had been more careful with our budget before. But we also felt some positive emotions. We felt proud of ourselves for taking action and being responsible enough to get help with our finances. We felt hopeful that we would be able to save more money and achieve our financial goals. We felt grateful for the things that we still have, like our family, our friends and our health. We realized that we do not need cable or streaming services to be happy. We can find other ways to entertain ourselves, like getting Oliver out on walks, reading, playing games or learning new skills. This week was a learning experience for us. We learned that cutting expenses is not easy, but it is possible. We learned that we could cope with change and uncertainty. We learned that we could live with less and still be satisfied. We learned that we have more control over our finances than we thought. We learned that we could make tough choices and grow from them.
