Summit Credit Union Expands Access to Homeownership with Down Payment Plus® Program

June 15, 2026 MADISON, Wis. – Summit Credit Union, a member-owned financial cooperative, is helping more families make homeownership a reality through a partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago (FHLBank Chicago). The effort reflects Summit’s purpose to improve the financial well-being of its members and strengthen the communities it serves. It also builds on the credit union’s long-standing focus on supporting women’s financial security.Through FHLBank Chicago’s Downpayment Plus® (DPP®) program, qualifying first-time homebuyers can receive up to $10,000 in forgivable assistance for down payment and closing costs. To be eligible, members must meet income guidelines, contribute at least $1,000 of their own funds and complete a homeownership education course. The program is designed to support prospective buyers across Wisconsin who are navigating rising home prices and the upfront costs of homeownership, including down payments, closing costs and prepaid expenses. Access to programs like DPP is especially impactful for women, who often face unique financial barriers on the path to homeownership. So far in 2026, Summit Credit Union has disbursed $470,000 in DPP grants, helping 47 families achieve their homeownership dreams. In 2025, Summit awarded more than $1 million in assistance to over 100 households, supporting buyers across the region.“As we celebrate National Homeownership Month, we’re proud to help more families take the next step toward owning a home,” said Summit CEO & President Kim Sponem. “For many women, buying a home is about what comes next—stability, options and a stronger future.
