We have entered our ‘spendy season’ that starts every year from the end of July and goes until the first of October. The county fair is the official start of the season for us, as we enter projects and check in multiple times throughout the week for judging. It is easy to overspend at the fair, and it is certainly rigged for quickly emptying cash from our pockets. This year, we found ways to cut down our spending such as walking a little farther instead of paying for parking and eating lunch at home instead of at the fairgrounds. Like so many other areas in our life, it felt different. We think that the experience was still a good one even if we spent less on food and rides than in previous years. Over the next couple of months, we have multiple birthdays, an anniversary, and our daughter going to college. We are feeling the pinch and wondering how we can possibly save money with so many events taking place in a short amount of time. Our plan to combat the onslaught of things threatening to derail our financial plan is to keep spending to a minimum. This sounds oversimplified, but the simple act of showing restraint has been making all the difference in our lives. We cannot overstate enough just how much awareness has been helping us make better financial decisions since the beginning of this project. A tip we would like to share is to take it day by day and week by week if you start to feel overwhelmed. As for us, we are putting our armor on and getting ready for all the events that are coming up! Wish us luck!~K & T
