Adaptability and Strength in the Face of Challenges: My New Financial Reality

November 6, 2026 Hello everyone! The last few weeks have been full of challenges, but also big victories that have shown me that, with discipline and control, it is possible to stay on track toward our financial goals even when unexpected situations come up along the way.Recently, I faced some challenges with my income due to a 16-hour reduction in my work schedule. In the past, such a drastic change in my income would have completely thrown me off track, but the mindset I have developed through the program has helped me stay strong and focused on finding solutions instead of feeling sorry for myself. One challenge during this time was transportation. I was paying out of my own pocket for daily rides to work, which was affecting my reduced income while I waited for the monthly reimbursement from my employer’s insurance company. I decided to take action and submit a formal transportation proposal. I was assigned a transportation service and was able to recover 90% of the money I had spent on those daily rides! And to help make up for the reduction in my work hours, I strengthened my positive habits:
  • Strict shopping: Focusing on making only necessary purchases and continuing to practice sticking firmly to my grocery list without going over budget.
  • Managing debt: I have been paying more than the monthly minimum on my credit card with a 0% APR so I can reduce that balance as quickly as possible.
The biggest change has been moving in with my partner. We discussed what was fair and decided together that I’ll contribute about 1/3 of my biweekly income to household expenses. I will continue to cover my own personal expenses, and this will still let me be able to help cover some of my children’s expenses when they need it.This big step of moving in together and sharing responsibilities proportionally will give me the financial freedom I need to continue moving forward. Now, I will be able to consistently contribute money to my emergency savings, increase the amount I contribute to my retirement plan and grow my savings in certificates. All of this is leading toward one very clear goal: creating solid and consistent savings so I can fulfill my dream of buying a property of my own in the future. Bumps in the road are inevitable but now I know making clear and shared financial decisions gives us the stability we need to build a peaceful future. I will keep moving forward with strong and steady steps!
