Calculate Insurance Needs
This week was a busy, chaotic week but a good one and we hit some big goals in this house!First, I finally paid off my last private student loan. It wasn’t very big to begin with, but it was still a few thousand dollars and the interest rate was higher than I’d like. I really had to prioritize paying off my loan. I could have done this years ago, but it just didn’t occur to me to do so when I had bigger things to worry about. Once I got my basic finances under control, I was able to direct more attention to my loan. Here’s the main things I did to achieve this:
I increased my monthly payment. A few months ago, my Summit coach suggested maybe I could throw a little extra money at my loan. I took another look at my budget and I decided I had the wiggle room to double the monthly payment and could cut back on some miscellaneous spending.
All my spare funds went to my loan. I took extra Rover bookings and worked a little overtime. I calculated what the extra funds were, closely monitored my paydays, and made sure the extra funds went towards my loan.
I reminded myself why it mattered. When I thought about just spending the extra cash, I reminded myself of the goals I have that paying off this loan will help me achieve. It was a big bet on my self-control, but I managed to do it!
Second, in between overtime and pet check ins, I was able to enter my older dog, Olly, into an agility competition where he finally got a qualifying score and took first in his class! We’ve been training for about 3-4 years and I made it a personal goal to enter our first competition this year. It took most of the year, but I did it! Finally getting a qualifying score was especially gratifying because his one fault is knocking bars and in agility, that’s an automatic disqualification. A couple more Q’s and we’ll have a new AKC title. I can’t wait to see what else he can do.Here’s to November bringing even more excitement!
