My four weeks of relaxation are up and I’m so excited! Kicking off the end of summer is a girl’s weekend up north, then a week spent hiking Door County with my best friend. Then we’ll be getting ready for some bigger trips like camping, St. Louis, California, and Nashville come fall.I’ve mentioned my goal of visiting every Wisconsin state park stemmed from a training activity my dog trainer initiated. She had set up a fun scavenger hunt throughout state parks as a fun training activity and in partnership with the release of Danielle St. Louis’ book, “A Dog Lover’s Guide to Hiking Wisconsin State Parks.” I would highly recommend it for anyone who loves getting out and about with their dog! Anyway, the challenge ends August 31 so I’m trying to squeeze in a few more parks in what I’ve termed “Hike-a-Palooza.” I’m originally from Green Bay so I’ll spend a week back home hiking 6-7 parks in that area and up in Door County every day after work. Thankfully, I work remotely so I’m able to be MIA from Madison for a bit.Being away from my home base is a tricky balance. In theory, I save a little bit on utilities like water and electric plus I’m not eating my own food. On the other hand, it feels like a mini vacation which makes me want to ball out meeting up with friends I haven’t seen in a while, and I’ll also be spending more on gas driving back and forth to various parks.I have yet to find a good balance between the two while being on the road but I’ve definitely been more cognizant of money going out the door since starting Project Money. Progress, not perfection!
