June 12, 2018
>
Press Room
Milestone year continues to boost financial education, empower larger community.MADISON, Wis.—Summit Credit Union launches its 10th annual Project Money program this week with the announcement of its 2018 teams. From hundreds of applicants, four teams, including a Milwaukee couple, were selected for the program’s milestone season. The teams work to reduce their overall debt and increase savings on their way to better financial management and improved daily lives.“Project Money helps participants work with a coach to find helpful methods in reducing debt and increasing savings that work for them, says Summit Credit Union CEO & President Kim Sponem. “And, by following on our website, anyone can benefit. We hope people throughout the state will follow along and be inspired to take control of their finances and start living the lives they want.” Throughout Project Money, each team will work directly with a Summit financial coach, who will guide them with strategies and tools to make smart financial decisions. Culminating in February of 2019, the team that earns the most points will receive a $10,000 cash prize from Summit, while all runners-up receive $2,500. Points are rewarded for overall increase in savings, debt reduction and participation in program events. The 2018 Project Money Teams are:
Team Jaclyn & Kiara: Recently married, Jaclyn and Kiara want to reduce their spending, so they can start saving for bigger goals, especially buying a home and starting a family.
Team Angie & Cris: Angie, Cris and their two kids are always on the go. Cris is a carpenter, and the couple wants to save enough money for him to start building their family’s dream home.
Team Sara: Sara is a recently divorced teacher with three kids. Taking the financial reins for the first time since the divorce, Sara is eager to learn how to manage her money wisely.
Team Megan & Scott: In the midst of planning their 2019 wedding, Megan and Scott want to keep their celebration on budget while also developing healthier financial habits all around.
Throughout Project Money’s duration, each team will share their journey with the greater community through Summit’s Money Smarts blog and on its Facebook and Twitter pages. Additionally, each month a Project Money team will appear live in-studio on Madison’s NBC15 with Anchor Leigh Mills to discuss their challenges, wins and motivations.Over the past decade, Project Money participants have collectively increased savings by $307,132 while reducing $354,254 in debt.To learn more about Project Money and this year’s participants, visit
