The Importance Of Vulnerability

June 22, 2022 I (Megan) recently started re-reading “Daring Greatly” by Brené Brown. This was a required reading for one of my social work courses, and it has also been recommended to me countless times by friends and family. It was really good to be reminded of the role that vulnerability places in our lives, as well as the FEAR that it invokes for everyone. It means feeling exposed, open, weak…but it is undoubtedly healing. Being a part of Project Money makes us vulnerable in ways that both Dom and I are not used to. We have to be open, honest, and transparent about our financial situation, and that is not something we have ever had to do before. With many eyes watching, there is not only a fear of judgment, but a fear of failure. But we decided to apply for Project Money so that we could hopefully help even one family see our situation, relate, and want to start on their journey to financial freedom and wellness. This week was HARD, ya’ll! We were certain we would stay on budget with groceries, take-out, Target runs, etc. We didn’t quite get there, BUT we absolutely saved more than we thought, and we paid off two credit cards fully, a reserve line of credit, AND put $500 in our savings. This is a marathon, not a sprint! The next six months will be incredibly challenging, but we are honored to be here. Humbled to have the support of so many. Ready to be one step closer to our goals!
